West country folk singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Seth Lakeman unearthed hidden histories and unsung everyday heroes to commemorate in song from in and around his native Devon and Cornwall for his latest album ‘Word of Mouth’ released in February 2014. The new single ‘Last Rider’ is out now with a video here:
Seth says of ‘Last Rider’
’It is a rolling, rhythmic song written about a final journey taking by an old steam engine driver. It features the fabulous banjo playing of Leon Hunt and leads you through the rattling tracks of the railway’.
Seth will be playing at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 06 June as part of BBC Radio 2’s D-Day 70 Years On Concert where he will perform a song with the BBC Concert Orchestra and at a headline show at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre on 03 August. He plays festivals throughout the Summer including Folk by the Oak, Cambridge Folk Festival and Beautiful Days. Seth will be on the road again in October to play a UK tour with his band playing tracks from the new album and live favourites.
Seth has performed everywhere from Libya to Australia to Texas over the years, as well as featuring on just about every major festival bill across the UK. In addition, he has toured extensively around Europe too where he’s also performed with others including Tori Amos and Clannad. In 2013 amidst a hectic summer of festival appearances, recording the new album and the birth of his twins he flew to New York to meet Izzy Young for a BBC Radio 4 special called The Folklorist.
Seth’s previous albums include the Mercury Music Prize nominated Kitty Jay (2005) and the gold-selling Freedom Fields (2006) which featured the hit singles ‘Lady of the Sea’ and ‘The White Hare’.
