MARY JANE – New Album: Solstice

SolsticeTalking Elephant – TECD244

MARY JANE is a Hampshire based band who play lively acoustic & electric folk-rock. Their music is individualistic & varied, with strong Celtic, Eastern & Medieval influences set against a powerful rhythm section, great musicianship and modern unique song writing. Mary Jane’s energetic stage shows have become a popular attraction at venues and festivals throughout the UK.

With a firmly established reputation for electrifying performances, the band signed to Talking Elephant Records in late 2010 for the release of their fifth album Eve, followed by the double album retrospective Brigit’s Daughter in 2011 of material released on German label September Gurls 1996-2002

The new studio album Solstice released in March 2014 sees the band expand on the themes on Eve; day and night, light and dark and the changes of the seasons; the festivals, rituals and practices of our ancestors and new emerging customs and rituals of our times. The best of the old and the new.

“Winter dies and the ashes fly
And the sun stands still in the morning sky
Gentle snow as darkness falls
Seasons they turn and the fire it burns….on”
