Brighton And Hove Folk Festival – full line-up

Brighton And Hove Folk Festival

A spectacular line-up includes both legends and fresh talent at Brighton and Hove Folk Festival this year

Brighton and Hove Folk Festival has announced its full line-up, offering fans a chance to see some of the best folk acts around this September 10th. Now in its second year, the annual festival will take place at Patterns, on the Brighton seafront, with Martin & Eliza Carthy, Gwenifer Raymond and Rachael Dadd amongst the acts performing.

The festival, run by Brighton promoters Folkroom, will have fifteen acts playing the venue over the course of a single day, with a mixture of modern and traditional artists ensuring there’s something on offer for everyone. The biggest coup for the festival is no doubt a headline set from Martin & Eliza Carthy. A legend of the scene, Martin Carthy’s music heavily influenced both Bob Dylan and Simon & Garfunkel, and daughter Eliza is now one of the most successful touring acts in English folk music.

Stage times are planned to allow fans to catch every act. Local guitar superstar Gwenifer Raymond will headline the Hobgoblin Stage,  which will also see sets from singer-songwriter Rachael Dadd, BBC Folk Award-winner Ben Walker and critically acclaimed Brighton act Bird In The Belly.

The main stage will celebrate some of the most exciting new acts on the scene, including bands The People Versus and Memorial, as well as acclaimed singer-songwriter Sophie Jamieson.

“We’ve got such a strong line-up this year that we’ve almost surprised ourselves,” says Folkroom founder Stephen Rötzsch Thomas.

“There isn’t an act on the bill that I could stand to miss – which is why we put so much effort into making sure it’s possible to catch every single act of the festival. We’ve been fortunate over the years to put on a lot of great up-and-coming acts before they catch their break, and that’s very much what this line-up is about: familiar acts we all know and love alongside newer acts who are going to be headlining folk festivals in the years to come.”

The festival will also offer a unique bonus for those watching acts on the main stage, with former Children’s Laureate and the Observer newspaper’s political cartoonist Chris Riddell providing live illustrations to every song performed across the day. Riddell, who is best known for illustrating books by the likes of Neil Gaiman as well as bestselling children’s series the Edge Chronicles and has recently designed sets for Phoebe Bridgers’ live show, is a regular collaborator with Folkroom and the patron of Brighton and Hove Folk
Festival.
