Award-winning multi-instrumentalist Tim Edey is the latest addition to the already stunning acts lined up for Iúr Cinn Fleadh – Newry’s music festival.
A double BBC Musician of the year BBC ALBA/Scotland Best Traditional musician 2020 and BBC Radio Two Musician of the year 2012, Tim will play on the same bill as The Sands Family at Newry Town Hall on 27 August.
Tim has toured the world and recorded with most of the major names in Celtic/Contemporary roots music including – The Chieftains, Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Altan, Capercaillie, Michael McGoldrick and Mary Black.
Now a name on the world stage in his own right, Tim is rated by many to be one of the world’s finest ever melodeon and guitar players in the folk and contemporary scene today.
He will be both support act and special guest for The Sands at their Fleadh gig. It’s rare for The Sands to play in Newry – even though they were born and brought up in the locality. So they jumped at the chance when invited to take part in the Fleadh on their home patch.
Siblings Tommy, Ben, Colum and Anne would be the first to agree that their ability to weave local and often humorous stories into songs that travel the world is greatly inspired by their connection to the people, places and stories from close to home – their chosen theme for their Fleadh concert.
Often, when returning from far-off travels, people ask them, ‘Do you ever play anywhere close to home at all? Well, the answer to that is a definite ‘yes’ – and now together with Tim Edey.
