The Soundhouse Organisation’s Spotlight Series continues on Monday 15 March with Trio Magico

Soundhouse Organisation

Comprising pianist Paul Harrison, bassist Mario Caribé and drummer / percussionist Stuart Brown, Trio Magico have been brought together by their passion for playing Brazilian music. The three musicians have a special rapport from years of performing together in Scotland and internationally in various folk, world and jazz settings.

The music of Egberto Gismonti is like a microcosm of his native Brazil – diverse, joyful, and unique. One of the great legends of the country’s music, the trio present his tunes in a new light – infectious rhythms of the world translated into vessels for inspiring jazz improvisation. At times romantic and film-score like, others introspective yet optimistic. There are carnival-like choro rhythms that will, literally, move you, and inspiring melodies that you may find yourself singing for a long time afterwards.

Douglas Robertson and Jane-Ann Purdy, co-producers of the Spotlight Series said: “Trio Mágico combines the talents of three great jazz musicians – keyboard player Paul Harrison, bassist Mario Caribe, and drummer Stu Brown. Their repertoire is drawn entirely from the compositions of Mario’s fellow countryman, the Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Egberto Gismonti. But don’t expect a tribute band. They’ll very much perform their own interpretation of this music

The Soundhouse Spotlight Series is ten intimate gigs, presented as-live, and featuring 16 of the best emerging and established acts from the world of traditional folk, jazz, and Americana music. The Soundhouse Spotlight Series runs at 20:00 on Mondays, from 22 Feb to 26 April.
