The award-winning Folk On Foot podcast is re-uniting some of the top names in UK folk for a third online festival on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August. The podcast’s first two festivals raised a staggering £190,000+ for musicians who have lost their livelihoods during the Covid lockdown.
This time Folk On Foot Festival 3 – Together again is distinctly different because it will see performers getting out of their front rooms, filming 30 minute sets in spectacular or unexpected locations. Many will be playing together in person for the first time since lockdown. The six-and-a-half hour show will be co-presented in Sheffield by broadcaster and Folk on Foot host Matthew Bannister – and musician Nancy Kerr.
The line-up is:
The Breath (and special guests)
Eliza Carthy, Saul Rose and David Delarre
Johnny Flynn and his band
Julie Fowlis, Éamon Doorley and Duncan Chisholm
Karine Polwart, Steven Polwart and Inge Thomson
Kris Drever, John McCusker and Phil Cunningham
Lady Nade, Kit Hawes and Aaron Catlow
Nancy Kerr, Martin Simpson and Andy Cutting
Peggy Seeger with her sons Neill and Calum MacColl
Rachel Newton and Lauren MacColl
Sam Lee and his band
Show of Hands (Steve Knightley and Phil Beer)
Spiers and Boden
The six-and-a-half hour show will be co-presented in Sheffield by Folk on Foot host Matthew Bannister and musician Nancy Kerr, with Simpson, Cutting, Kerr as the “house band”. It will be streamed on the Folk on Foot YouTube channel and Facebook page from 2pm B.S.T on Monday 31st August.
Like the previous Folk on Foot Festivals, a crowdfunding appeal will be launched with half the money going to the charity Help Musicians and half divided between the artists who’re taking part. Donations can be made at www.folkonfoot.com/festival.
