Sue Harding announces her second album

Sue Harding

Darkling is the new album release from West Country singer songwriter and guitarist Sue Harding. Twelve self-written tracks recorded by Josh Clark at Get Real Audio studios along with guest musician Beth Porter on cello and Josh also supplying percussion, keyboards, ambient sounds and guitar. Darkling explores themes of loss, redemption, hope, joy and survival.

Sue Harding is beginning to get noticed. This West Country, solo singer songwriter and guitar player’s unique voice, range and heartfelt delivery creates a hauntingly beautiful sound. There is a retro sensibility to much of her music that references the song writing of the 1960s and ’70s folk revival.

Born in London but brought up in the Cotswolds, Sue doesn’t remember a time when she couldn’t sing but fell in love with roots and folk music when studying in Manchester. Later when living in Wales she found sessions and folk clubs picking up songs and techniques from the musicians she met.

Sue’s first recording was as a guest singer on Tony Carter’s beautiful album, Rolling Hills And Running Water, in 2007 where she sang ‘The Silver Dagger’. Over the next ten years Sue created a body of her own work, ready to be recorded and developed. She stepped up as a performer in a duo called Angel Ridge with Lou Baxter and was much involved with the Bath Folk Club. When Angel Ridge went their separate ways, Sue began playing solo gigs, supported on guitar by Ali George, an established singer song writer and guitarist with several acclaimed albums to his name.

Sue recorded Flight, her first album of original songs in 2016. Sue’s flirtation with Americana showed in the song writing and Ali George joined her on guitar. During 2020/21, Sue began work on this second album Darkling, which celebrates a renewed connection to the English landscape, and the late Victorian poetry which inspires so much of it. It has a gentle lush romanticism and a contemporary folk feel.
