Sean Taylor announces new album

Sean Taylor

Over the past two decades, London troubadour Sean Taylor has established himself as a world class songwriter and performer. He was nominated for the 2023 UK Blues Award Acoustic Act of the Year and is the host of the Blues In Britain interview series How Musicians Work. Sean constantly tours, writing songs as he travels and finding inspiration from his life as a troubadour.

Short Stories is Sean’s latest album. It’s a sublime collection of tales, encounters, experiences and framed moments. ‘Happy Days’ opens the album and makes three references to the Irish playwright, Samuel Beckett. The first is the title, taken from Beckett’s play, the second is the line “I can’t go on” from Waiting For Godot and finally the famous “try again, fail again” quote from Worstward Ho!. ‘Snowdonia’ is the true story of a February swim in Lake Snowdon minus the expletives at the freezing cold water, a magical place and a magical story. ‘Wildflower’ is a psychedelic love song about festival skies and small hours encounters. Everything is better with music.

His songs often come from conversations on the road. ‘Open Your Heart To Love’ is taken from three or four different conversations woven into one. People are complex but always fascinating and compelling. ‘Mona Lisa’ is a rock’n’roll joyride of tales and myths about the most famous painting in the world. This includes the disappearance of the Mona Lisa, which was followed by Picasso’s arrest (for theft) and acquittal, in 1911. It’s a good true story.

Short Stories was produced by Ben Walker in Brighton. All songs were written by Sean Taylor, with three songs: ‘Snowdonia’, ‘Open Your Heart To Love’ and ‘Set Me Free’ co-written with bassist Mike Seal.

Sean Taylor is an international touring troubadour. His songs are best described as roots; influenced by blues, Americana, jazz, spoken word and folk music. As well as prolific songwriter he is a multi-instrumentalist, a singer, guitarist, pianist, and harmonica player. Sean will release two albums in 2023: Sean Taylor Band Live and Short Stories. Sean has toured all over the world including performances at Glastonbury (acoustic stage), Cambridge Folk Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival (Aus), Ramblin Roots Festival (NL) Avignon Blues Festival (FR), Harvest Time Blues Festival (IRL), Blue Balls Festival (CH) and many other global events. He has opened for Robert Cray, John Fogerty, John Mayall, Neville Brothers, Tony Joe White, Band Of Horses, Richard Thompson, Eric Bibb and many other legends. Sean Taylor tours both solo and with his band.
