Multi-instrumentalist Andy Smith, best known for his work with award winning modern folk trio Harp & A Monkey, is releasing a debut solo album An English Village.
The album combines the many instruments Smith can and can’t play properly and offers a unique blend of folk, electronica, and samples of idyllic English village life – creating a nostalgic yet modern sound that reflects on the ties between the past and present.
A folktronic album, An English Village provides a playful and thought-provoking look at traditional English village life.
The eleven-track album provides a meander through a quintessential village – one in which the listener is taken on a journey that takes in a variety of sights and sounds: from the village school to the local horticultural society and their project to restore the war memorial, the council offices, a pause for tea and trip to the manor house and church, before a well-earned holiday and celebration of pastoral seasonal cheer.
Andy explains: “With Harp & A Monkey I’ve travelled all over the country and visited some wonderful villages that have really captured my imagination. I wanted to create something that would reflect my feelings about village life and the changes that I have witnessed.”
A must-listen for fans of English folk music and those looking for a fresh take on traditional music, An English Village was written, recorded, and produced by Andy Smith and will be available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music from October 2023.
