The Celtic Harper announces his debut album.

The Celtic Harper

The Celtic Harper (Andrew Smith) is an outlier harpist and lyrical tenor based in Calderdale, U.K. After twenty years working as a psychotherapist, he eventually broke free from the consulting room. He is now offering to the world his beautiful, melancholic songs and music about the human spirit.

Andrew’s music is enriched with the complex, dark emotional worlds of the people he writes about, be they real or imagined.  Musically, Andrew is influenced by the likes of John Martyn and Nick Cave, but also classical harp composers such as John Thomas and Eire Lynn Jones. Andrew layers his songs with beautiful rhythms and progressions, tapping into the full potential of the harp, but way differently to how you may have expected. A rebel in the psychotherapy world, he is now bringing that spirit to music.

Trained in both classical and traditional harp methods, he has broken free from both worlds, carving out his own unique sounds on a notoriously difficult instrument.  Having spent so long helping other people emancipate themselves, he is now emancipating himself through music.

Andrew is releasing his debut studio album, Carnivorine, in August 2024.
