Gabriel Moreno is a Gibraltarian poet and singer songwriter who has been performing for the past twenty years in Gibraltar, Chile, Peru, Italy, Spain, Germany, USA and the UK. In December 2019 he won the Introducing Stage at the Great British Folk Festival. He has ten poetry books published by Omicron and Orion in both Spanish and English and has three albums under his belt. His folk songs are both poetic and political, mining the same rich seams as Leonard Cohen, Fabrizio De Andre and Georges Brassens. What characterises his work is the blending of languages and cultures. This stems primarily from his bilingualism and his many travels across Europe and the American continent.
After releasing three albums, Love And Decadence and Farewell Belief, Whiskey With Angels on Amber Records, and his EP Poetical Resistance which he toured round the UK and Europe, Moreno returns as a burning force of nature with this brand new LP called The Year Of The Rat. In this album he explores the struggles and revelations of the arduous period of lockdown and the confinement from 2020-2021. 2020 was the year of the rat according to the Chinese horoscope and Moreno expertly uses lyrics derived from his poetical studies and crafted tunes to explore the struggles of this year for musicians and other working folk. Just like the rat, Moreno has had to employ shrewdness and ingenuity to survive this period and come out with new compelling songs. The album includes collaborations with several acclaimed musicians of the London and Barcelona underground music scene including Ned Cartwright (Heartworn Highways) Adam Beattie (Pica Pica, Band Of Burns), Fiona Bevan, Pearl Fish, Pablo Yupton, DG Solaris amongst others. It will be launched at The Tower Theatre, London, February 2022.
