As I have been struggling with a really painful left foot for a while, I had to come into the festival a little later and my first act of the day was An Audience with Spike Edney who was interviewed by Alex Dyke. Alex is a former BBC Radio Solent presenter who has a knack of extracting information from his guests! Very interesting!
The John Jones Trio followed and a huge audience greeted them. An absolutely astounding set list which was made up of new songs and also the obligatory Oysterband songs in between. I’ve still got ‘This House Still Stands’ running awol in my head as was an audience participation song. Most of us had seen The Oysterband play one of their last gigs together at last years Wickham Festival, and as John told me afterwards, he was very surprised to be offered a slot in this years festival. I told him his audience weren’t surprised and so pleased!
Kathryn Tickell and her band attracted a good audience and she was followed by the amazing Dervish from Sligo. Such a joy to listen to and watch. Front lady bodhran player Cathy Jordan sang and whooped her way through their fantastic set.
Headliners The Saw Doctors from Galway were on fire. A riot of songs, music and energetic audience. They commanded most people on the field, inside the tent and outside. Still fronted by songwriters Davy Carton on vocals and guitarist Leo Moran and the band included ex Waterboy Anthony Thistlethwaite on sax. Sadly this clashed with The Amy Winehouse Band and Ferocious Dog in the Little Top but my foot wouldn’t carry me too far!
The Dhol Foundation DJ set ended the evening from 10pm. It included Bhangra dancing instruction and lots of energy (where did it all come from at that time of night)?! Sleep needed!!
Last day tomorrow – it has flown by!
