“…virtually impossible for anyone listening not to tap their feet!” Hercules MomentsTOP OF THE OLD ROAD is the debut album from Aberdeen based roots rockers Brothers Reid who unsurprisingly are brothers Michael and Christopher, who between them play a veritable feast of guitars and supply vocals; fellow band members comprise Grant Anderson on bass, cello and whistle, Rory Comerford on fiddle, moothy, mandolin, keyboards, guitar and vocals and holding down the beat is Alan Hastie who supplies drums and percussion. This superb album follows on from their critically acclaimed 2010 single release Do It Yourself. The album contains nine tracks of contrasting material taking the listener from up-tempo blues riffs to slow somber ballads via toe tapping roots rockers and epic harmony laden story songs. As a debut release, the nine self composed songs have that ‘where have I heard this before’ feel, a sure sign of quality material. The songs display a youthful energy, reminiscent of their live shows but also show a great maturity in both the playing and the song writing.

The album has a distinctly West Coast psychedelic 1960s feel, shown perfectly on the title track, but a latter day comparison could be either The Coral or the Lilac Time.

The five band members are all either studying at the Aberdeen College or working in or around Aberdeen, but with the material displayed on TOP OF THE OLD ROAD I certainly hear a full-time career in writing, recording and performing music is not too far away.

The album was recorded at the famed Captain Toms studios in Aberdeen with Paul Emerson in the chair who also supplied additional keyboards on the title track.
