The eagerly awaited new album from Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman – who have won the Best Duo award in the Spiral Earth Awards 2015 has now been released and is being lauded by critics far and wide. Tomorrow Will Follow Today is a magnificent album and every track is glorious! 10 tracks which are comprised of 2 traditional songs and eight self-penned tracks from Kathryn and Sean themselves.
The album commences with ‘Child Owlet’, one of the traditional arrangements dealing with incest, murder and betray as all good folk songs are! A raunchy number with fabulous vocals from Kathryn and guitar playing from Sean.
The second track is ’52 Hertz’ – a hauntingly mournful tune of a whale whose whale song is of a lower frequency than usual and is general believed this whale is lonely while roaming the seas searching for a mate. Beautiful piano too. ‘A Song to Live By’ is a song for their twin daughters to help guide them on their way through life. Starting off in the right direction, smile and be kind is the message. A lovely message from Kathryn. The title track – ‘Tomorrow Will Follow Today’ is a good song for election year. A protest song with a lot of truth in it. Excellent lyrics.
‘La Moneca – Queen of The Island of Dolls’ is a lovely but sad song about a collection of dolls in memory of a drowned child south of Mexico City. A promotional video of this track can be found on YouTube produced by Kathryn’s and Sean’s daughters.
A lovely album, one to definitely add to the collection and can be purchased from their website (or the link below) which will also give you the extensive tour dates they are playing around the UK this year. Absolutely brilliant live too! You can buy the album from one of their gigs!
