Tim Edey announces Christmas album and tour

Tim Edey

Released to coincide with his first Celtic Christmas UK tour, Tim Edey’s new album presents listeners with seasonal music from a range of traditions, performed by some of the finest musicians from the world music scene. The track listing reflects suggestions made by friends and fans responding to posts on Tim’s Facebook page, and features music of passion, rare beauty, musical fun and a couple of surprises, all linked by a festive theme and infused with the spirit of Tim’s incredible virtuosity and boundless enthusiasm.

Originally conceived as a solo project, the intervening months have seen Tim travel across the world, playing with many of his musical influences and heroes – now good friends, with the result that the credits now read as a who’s who of contemporary Celtic innovators and performers. Many will need no introduction: piper Ross Ainslie, Capercaillie’s Donald Shaw, harmonica maestro Brendan Power, percussionist Mark Kelso and Irish/Australian master of the fretless bass, Steve Cooney. The line up also introduces the next generation, with strings, violin and arrangements by 17-year-old, Mary-Frances Leahy, daughter of Canadian superstars, Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy.

The album also reflects Tim’s globe-trotting influences, the beauty of ‘The Wexford Carol’, reflecting a decade spent around the world with The Chieftains, the passion and stunning musicality of ‘The Galician Carol’, learned from Spanish superstar Carlos Nunez during recording together at Mike Oldfield’s studio. There’s also the dance around the Christmas Tree fun of ‘Ding Dong Merrily On High’ and time to sit by an open fire for the warmth of Tim’s take on Howard Blake’s classic ‘The Snowman’, plus the poignant surprise of his version of ‘Fairytale Of New York’. Tim will be taking all of these and more out on his UK tour between the 24th of November and 20th of December.
