Critically acclaimed UK folk duo Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage return with their 5th full length album, The Strangers’ Share, a record centred on dreams and the supernatural.
You could be forgiven for thinking Hannah & Ben might never return to their intimate duo roots…Much of their 2024 was spent touring with their In The Dark We Grow Band and A Winter Union and their 2023 brought lengthy periods on the road with folk rock legends Fairport Convention. However the turn of the year brought another creative sea change for the duo.
“We’d done a really long stint of road – with so many amazing musicians who we love dearly; but come January we knew it was time to turn inward” muses Ben. The period of hibernation found the duo exploring identical themes by coincidence… “We were both independently writing and arranging dream songs… some traditional, some our own – once we realised we had that synchronicity of thought we knew we had to try and bottle it for people.”
A sleepy studio in the West Country was booked and over five peaceful days The Strangers’ Share was born. An album that showcases the pin-drop intimacy of the single microphone live shows that made their name five albums earlier. Every creak from their 80 year old vintage guitars is honestly captured; an intake of nervous breath before a heartbreaking ballad; the magic of live-in-the-studio duetting – this record takes you through the veil, deep into Hannah & Ben’s dreamy, soundscaped world – for 40 minutes, you’re in the room with them – sharing the magic.
