Rosie Nimmo – HOME

With comparisons to Billie Holliday, Alison Kraus, Patti Smith and Dory Previn, Rosie Nimmo has a voice of clarity and depth. Rosie has been singing jazz and blues for several years, including performances in the Edinburgh International Jazz and Blues Festival and the International Book Festival for the last two years. She has been praised in both Scottish broadsheets, the music press and reviewed by the Guardian.

Until the release of her debut album LAZY AND MELLOW, Rosie had mainly sung covers of other people’s songs.  However, in view of the very positive reception LAZY AND MELLOW received, Rosie is happy to continue to share her views of life and the world with a bigger audience and she’s been finding that people make connections with her songs, this shown perfectly on her new album HOME. The renowned fiddle player Mairi Campbell is one of several excellent musicians who perform on both Rosie’s debut album and her latest album HOME. Mairi’s sensitive and insightful playing complements the words and music beautifully. Both albums were produced and engineered by Hobotalk’s Marc Pilley who also plays on most tracks. Ali Petrie also of Hobotalk plays outstanding keys on almost every song on HOME and Marc’s enthusiasm for the songs and Rosie’s delivery during production is certainly very evident. As he said, ‘This is going to have a very broad appeal as Rosie seems to have a way of saying things that touch people…… and great hooks too’

HOME is a collection of eleven self composed songs by Rosie and stand out tracks include the superb opener Never Go Back where Rosie describes life as being like a moving train, you can never go back, and the emotional readings on both The End and Life Can Pin You To The Wall, heartfelt tales that are guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye yet simply dynamic in their delivery. Playing the chanteuse on Timeclock, you get to hear a different side to her song-writing, very contemporary with an almost ‘pop’ vibe. It’s very difficult to fault any of the eleven tracks as they are all very different in their own way covering a variety of different musical genres.

Rosie Nimmo is also an accomplished artist graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1997 and produced most of the artwork and photography on HOME as well as her previous album LAZY AND MELLOW.  Rosie’s artwork has had much critical acclaim and her work has been reviewed in the national press as well as being shown in the Royal Scottish Academy on several occasions.

In 2010 Rosie played support slots for Lucy Wainwright Roche, Jane Siberry, Eric Bibb and Catherine Feeny in their visits to Edinburgh and is in negotiation for further interesting openers during 2011.Rosie performed at many music festivals during 2010 including the Wickerman Festival and also played at several venues in France. Further live shows and festivals are planned for 2011 including the Edinburgh Jazz Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where she played to a capacity audience in her first festival fringe show in August 2010 previewing some of the tracks featured on HOME to an enthusiastic audience.
