THE DOOBIE BROTHERS – ROCKIN’ DOWN THE HIGHWAY

The Doobie Brothers

‘ROCKIN’ DOWN THE HIGHWAY: THE WILDLIFE CONCERT’
RETRO WORLD: FLOATD6309
RELEASED: FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27th 2017

The Doobie Brothers, one of the most commercially-successful and best-loved rock bands of the last forty-odd years, have their superb double live album ‘ROCKIN’ DOWN THE HIGHWAY: THE WILDLIFE CONCERT’ reissued on the Retroworld reissue division of the North London indie label Floating World Records on Friday, October 27th, 2017.

Recorded live at three concerts on May 5th , May 6th and May 11th 1996, Rockin’ Down The Highway is a superb showcase for some fine music. The band were unique for having distinct phases of their career, shifting musical gears radically in the mid-seventies when the superb blue-eyed soul voice and keyboards of Michael McDonald were added to their ranks.

The earlier, hard rock era of the band—when guitarists Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston is well-represented, with such classics as ‘China Grove’, ‘Black Water’, ‘Long Train Runnin’ and, of course, ‘Listen To The Music’ all feature, but the McDonald era is also represented, with ‘Minute By Minute’ and ‘What A Fool Believes’ included in the track listing. Guitarist John McFee also is in tremendous form throughout, and the whole double set positively bristles with superb vocal harmonies, incisive musicianship and a firm focus on delivering fine music for a Good Cause – the proceeds of the shows went to the Wildlife Conservation Society.
