Frazey Ford – new single and UK tour dates

Frazey Ford

Following huge acclaim for her 2020 album U Kin B The Sun, Vancouver Soul-Americana artist Frazey Ford finally returns to UK shores this month for her 11-date tour and to celebrate shares a brand new single ‘Saul,’ a previously unheard track originally recorded for the album.

‘Saul’ is a languid ode to motherhood, “simply about the devastating amount of love you have for a child,” she explains. Her tremulous voice lavishes a deliberate bass-laden groove on this lone outtake from her 2020 album U Kin B The Sun, celebrated for its “heady and infectious” (The Guardian) blend of soul, psychedelia and country. She began writing the song not long after the birth of Saul – who features as the clouds in Frazey’s recent video for U Kin B The Sun – and only completed recently, the song is sonically restrained yet richly cathartic, an outpouring of the particularly vulnerable and earthy experience of love for a child.

Following her resounding return to the stage across the USA in October, Frazey brings her dazzling live presentation of U Kin B The Sun to a sold-out tour of UK audiences beginning November 17, with Canadian and European dates in early 2022.

On her masterful third album, Frazey Ford seamlessly inhabits an entire world of shapeshifting rhythm she refers to as “pagan disco,” elevating every beat and groove with the subtle magnetism of her mesmerizing voice as she examines pain and loss telegraphed through a prism of unfettered joy. Ford combats the toxic political climate that surrounds us with an irrefutably bold sense of assurance. With its graceful collision of soul and psychedelia combined with ’70s funk, U kin B the Sun is a body of work that invites both self-reflection and wildly joyful movement, and ultimately sparks a quiet transcendence.

Recorded at John Raham’s Afterlife Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia, featuring her Vancouver musicians Darren Parris, Leon Power, Craig McCaul, and Caroline Ballhorn, Erilk Nielsen along with Phil Cook on keys, U Kin B The Sun follows Ford’s 2014 release Indian Ocean, an album made with members of legendary Memphis soul band The Hi Rhythm Section.
