Norfolk & Norwich Festival – highlights

Norfolk & Norwich Fesival

In May Norfolk & Norwich Festival will take place across the county with a world-class programme spanning music, theatre, literature, visual arts, circus, dance and free outdoor events. The UK’s oldest single city arts festival has recently announced the full programme of folk and traditional music events on offer across 17 days between 12 – 28 May 2023.

American multi-instrumentalist Rhiannon Giddens performs her Grammy Award-winning album They’re Calling Me Home, which she made in collaboration with Francesco Turrisi. The album blends the music of their native and adoptive countries: America, Italy, and Ireland.

Virtuoso sitarist and composer Jasdeep Singh Degun is joined by an eight-piece band to perform music from his acclaimed debut, bringing the spontaneity and beauty of Indian tradition together with the rich counterpoint of western classical music and modern rhythmic ambience.

The award-winning Le Vent du Nord is a leading force in Québec’s progressive francophone folk movement. The group’s vast repertoire draws from both traditional sources and original compositions while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music with a broad range of global influences.

Fergus McCreadie is one of the most exciting young jazz pianists on the world stage. With his unique blend of Jazz and Scottish folk music inspired by his country’s sublime landscapes, Fergus captures the hearts and minds of audiences worldwide.

Brìghde Chaimbeul and Ross Ainslie, established musicians in their own right, started working on music together around 4 years ago focusing on double C smallpipes. Recently they’ve been working alongside Steven Byrnes on bouzouki and guitar. They play material from all around the world and music that is not conventionally heard or played on the Scottish smallpipes.
