Welsh trio Plu announce new album

Plu

Tri is the first collection of new and original music from the Caernarfonshire sibling trio since the ethereal Tir a Golau in 2015. Over two years, this collection was recorded at Stiwdio Sain, Llandwrog, with producer Aled Wyn Hughes (of Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog). Thanks to the Eos grant fund, musicians Carwyn Williams, Dafydd Owain and Edwin Humphreys add broader instrumentation to Plu’s acoustic sound. The album has an atmospheric mix of folk, Americana and pop tunes, all featuring the complex harmonies associated with Plu’s vocals.

Plu (meaning ‘feathers’ in Welsh) play alternative Welsh language pop-folk, with close three part harmonies a backbone to their varied set.

In 2014 Plu were part of Horizons/Gorwelion, a scheme delivered by BBC Cymru Wales in partnership with Arts Council Wales to develop new, independent contemporary music in Wales. As part of this project they played in festivals such as Hay Literary Festival and Festival No.6 as well as recording a live session at BBC studios Maida Vale. The band also represented Wales at Folk Alliance International, Kansas City in February 2016. They have also played some of Britain’s largest music festivals including Glastonbury and Green Man. In March 2017 Plu enjoyed touring the Chubut Province in Argentina as part of the Patagonia Celtica festival.

Plu released their debut album Plu on the label Sbrigyn Ymborth in July 2013 which was produced by Aled Hughes from Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog. The trio created an album for children, titled Holl Anifeiliaid Y Goedwig, on the Sain Cyf label, released in December 2014. Their third album Tir a Golau was released on the Sbrigyn Ymborth label in November 2015 receiving great reviews. All three albums were nominated for the Welsh Language Album of the Year for three years consecutively. Tir a Golau was also shortlisted for the 2016 Welsh Music Prize.
