Our man on the scene (and as Gerry Colvin puts it ‘Folk family’) Paul Johnson reviews his sunny and hot 2026 visit to the New forest folk festival…

Hi all.
Oh what a beautiful summer’s weekend that I spent in the New Forest.
I do actually feel blessed that I was able to spend such a fabulous weekend in great company, great artist’s and to top it off great weather.
One very important thing to tell you though… this year I went to the New Forest folk festival on my own… but here’s the thing not only was I not lonely, or left out… but I made some fantastic new friends.. so if you have ever wanted to go the New Forest folk festival but feel you have no one to go with that would appreciate it, or just don’t want to go with you… don’t worry about that! as with in an hour of sitting in the field at this years New Forest Festival I was chatting and talking to other lovely festival goers – this festival really does have a great friendly vibe – I would say – if you go to this festival alone – you wont be alone for long when your there – but welcomed.. by people who at first seen like random strangers plonk ya self down to any one sitting in that field and you will be chatting and exchanging stories in minutes!
So who did I grab for my audio podcast interviews this year?
Hunter Musket’s legendary Doug Morter who now resides in Denmark.
The lovely Chloe and Aimee from The True Foxes The wizened and wise old master of all things folk-rock – the irrepressible PJ Wright
The bundle of joy, energy, enthusiasm and brilliantly crafted song writer Gerry Colvin
The travelling super Caledonian show men that are the one and only Skerryvore
The lovely lady who brings us a beautifully hand crafted song catalogue Katherine Priddy
and…Folking.coms old friend the stunningly brilliant song writing and vocal power house of Merry Hell, and Rolling Folk the one and only Virginia Kettle
