Following the release of Ciaran’s debut solo album Banjaxed in 2019, Occupational Hazards is the first release under the guise Ciaran Ryan Band. Featuring the members of the live band – Donald Hay on drums, Bev Morris on bass, Chris Waite on guitar and Andrew Waite on accordion and keys, the intention set out in the recording of capturing the band in their most pure and raw form is achieved.
Irish Trad in its roots, the album is laced with a range of styles, predominantly Rock, while teasing the listener with lashings of pop and post-punk. With Duncan Lyall in the producer chair and Garry Boyle mixing, there is elegance to the records overall sound, whilst keeping the rough and ready ethos of the band firmly intact. The album is fully instrumental with the top line of tenor banjo and accordion at the forefront. Tight guitar, bass and drums played with attitude provide a rock solid backline foundation.
Twenty one melodies feature in nine tracks, with only three melodies being composed by external writers. Occupational Hazards is a firm statement in the current Scottish and Irish Folk scene, an assured expression of “doing your own thing”.
The album will be launched at Celtic Connections 2024 at the Old Fruitmarket on 26th January 2024.
