Loscoe State Opera – Dawn Bird

Loscoe State Opera Dawn BirdLively lot this – You’re sweetly piped into “Brian Boru” a slow instrumental medley that accelerates into a medieval romp. “The Butterfly” starts as a faster solo whistle piece and is joined by a steady folk/ rock guitar and bass line. The instrumental ends with “Jenny’s Chickens” who are running amok followed close in pursuit by the accordion player.

The title track “Dawn Bird” is “Bare Naked Ladies” meets Ian Anderson in the car park of the national African dance centre. “Fiddlers Hill” starts with a riff straight off AC/DC’s “Highway to Hell” then goes into the “Oyster Fairport Band”.

The “Man with an Axe” is more psychedelic than psycho, more Wishbone than Ash. “Dawn Bird” also features some trad favourites like “General Taylor” and a rocking version of “Step it out Mary” and is rounded off with “Hidden Beauty”.

You can’t pin LSO into any particular category, each band member underpins the other with all but the drummer contributing to the vocals.
