Official Folk Albums Chart – September 2025

The Official Folk Album Chart

On Tuesday 7th October the Official Charts Company, produced by English Folk Expo, revealed the Top 40 best-selling and most streamed folk albums released in the August reporting period in the UK by UK and Irish artists. The chart is first announced to the public on Tuesday 7th October at 7pm BST as part of the Official Folk Albums Chart Show presented by Folk on Foot via their YouTube channel.

Six new releases have entered the September chart!

Acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter James Yorkston is the first new entry in this month’s chart, arriving at No. 5 with Songs for Nina And Johanna (Domino). Recorded in conjunction with members of The Second Hand Orchestra and two of Sweden’s most recognisable female vocalists, Nina Persson (The Cardigans) and Johanna Söderberg (First Aid Kit), the record is a meditation on family, love and parenthood, filled with gentle melodies and poignant lyricism.

Flyte return with their fourth full-length, Between You And Me (Nettwerk), which comes in at No. 6. With legendary producer Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Laura Marling) at the helm, the record finds Will Taylor and Nick Hill at their most raw and instinctual. It presents “10 moving gems of adult experience” (MOJO) and according to Consequence, carries “an inimitable air of majesty.”

Celebrated Welsh instrumentalist Gwenifer Raymond’s third record Last Night I Heard The Dog Star Bark (We Are Busy Bodies) enters at No. 10. Featuring the celestial drones, mutant folk and frenetic blues that have become Raymond’s signature, the album is a hybrid of the ancient and the futuristic, where the arcane etchings of occult folk horror fuse with the unfathomable equations of the cosmos.

Johnson & Finnemore’s acclaimed debut album Find A Love That Brings You Home (Gulf Coast) comes in at No. 15. Stuart Johnson is widely regarded as Birmingham’s pre-eminent pedal steel guitarist, while Dan Finnemore’s work as a songwriter with Low Cut Connie has found him performing for President Barack Obama and Jack White. On this collaborative effort, they fuse heartfelt songwriting with rich, country-drenched instrumentation.

The hotly anticipated debut album Have At It! (Claddagh Records) from Irish American duo DUG arrives at No. 23. DUG consists of Californian Jonny Pickett and folk artist Lorkin O’Reilly (26M+ Spotify streams). Their playful debut firmly establishes them as one of the most unique and relatable forces in the contemporary folk scene, offering a warm and infectious take on old-time storytelling.

Junior Brother’s third album The End (Strap Originals) fittingly rounds of this month’s new entries at No. 26. Carefully pushing the boundaries of what modern Irish folk can look and sound like, Junior Brother is an idiosyncratic, challenging and richly lyrical singer/songwriter from Co. Kerry. Weaving the recent years of upheaval together with the eerie folklore of Fairy Forts, the record blends the raw textures of traditional Irish music with spectral, unearthly elements.
