Hoven Droven – new live album

Hoven DrovenLegendary Swedish folk rockers Hoven Droven are about to release a new live album.

The last live album from the band, Jumping At The Cedar, recorded in Minneapolis in 2006, earned the band a Swedish Grammy nomination.

This one is a bit special though. When the band released their debut album in 1994 it became somewhat of a landmark album for, the so called, second big wave of Swedish folk music. The first one being the 70:s. Together with bands like Garmarna and Hedningarna, Hoven Droven became a defining band for Swedish folk rock, with a unique blend of traditional instrumental songs and hard hitting rock.

They have since earned a reputation as an exceptional live act, released six more albums and toured in some 20 countries.

Defining moments includes two years on the main stage at Winnipeg Folk Festival (1998 & 2000), winning a Danish Grammy for best international folk album (Hippa 2001), having a ballet company in Chicago creating a complete performance out of their music (2003).  They have also toured with a large symphony orchestra and performed with fire artists, choirs, big bands .. and so on. All in the name of Swedish folk rock.

But it all began with the album Hia Hia back in 1994. To celebrate it’s 20 year anniversary the band recently played the whole album from start to finish in front of a enthusiastic crowd in their hometown of Östersund Sweden. The show was recorded and will be released world wide on December 17. Earlier this year the band also released a re-recorded version of the albums title track.
