Anne McCue – new album

Anne McCue - Blue Sky Thinkin

Australian Singer-Songwriter Anne McCue was discovered by Lucinda Williams at The Basement, Nashville one night playing solo. She then went on tour with Williams, playing venues such as The Fillmore and bringing the house down. Since then McCue has released 6 highly acclaimed albums.

“Initially, her stunning voice hooked me in. Then I got inside the songs. The first chance I got, I went to see her perform . . . I was floored!” Lucinda Williams

Her latest, Blue Sky Thinkin’, while containing all new originals, is a tribute to some of her favourite guitar players such as Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian and Mississippi John Hurt – yes, McCue can play all that stuff!

McCue has become the consummate entertainer – witty banter, brilliant songwriting and high calibre guitar playing have made her a festival darling. She and John Fullbright were People’s Choice to return to Moab Folk Fest this year.

Her music is included in Time Life’s 4 Decades Of Folk Rock alongside Bob Dylan, The Byrds, etc. and in Lucinda’s Artist Choice alongside Leonard Cohen, John Coltrane etc.

McCue recently produced Emma Swift’s debut album in Nashville. The record has since been nominated for an ARIA Award in Australia. Other artists she has produced include Audrey Auld and Tracey Bunn. She has played guitar on albums for such artists as Michelle Shocked and Reckless Johnny Wales.

“Roll is my favourite album of the year.” Bob Harris, BBC

“I’ve been a fan of guitarist/singer/songwriter Annie McCue for many years so I’m very honoured and happy about singing with her on a damn fine song for her upcoming album. You can’t go wrong with such talent.” Dave Alvin

“I had done some gigs with Annie McCue out in California and thought that besides her phenomenal playing and great songs she had a unique presence. She has an angelic quality to her but also a Charlie Chaplin-esque vibe. Fearless and tender and alluring.” David Olney

“McCue’s [guitar] virtuosity is no surprise, but the ease with which she’s absorbed and restated the beating heart of swing music is impressive and thrilling.” NO DEPRESSION
