ROY SCHNEIDER – ERLEICHDA – ALBUM RELEASE AND UK TOUR

Singer/Songwriter Roy Schneider’s third CD release, ERLEICHDA is a collection of lively and soulful Americana, inspired by a combination of his 2009 South-eastern US summer tour and recollections of a whirlwind childhood. The curious title (assumed pronunciation being “err-like-duh”) is a fictitious word borrowed from Tom Robbins’ novel Jitterbug Perfume, translating loosely to “lighten up”.

Special guests include Nashville harmonica legend Charlie McCoy (Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen) and bassist David C. Johnson (Aaron Neville, Neville Brothers Band).

The feel-good South in the Summertime has enjoyed particularly favourable response in live performance, as has Angels Along the Road, which made Roy a finalist in the 2009 Kerrville New Folk Competition. Other stand-out tracks include On Hill Time, Strange Wind and Livin’ the Dream. The album concludes with a cover of the Grateful Dead’s beloved Brokedown Palace.

ERLEICHDA is a collection of thirteen tracks, twelve of which are from the pen of Roy, the one cover being a superb take of the above mentioned Brokedown Palace written by the late, great Jerry Garcia and Robert Hunter.

A multi instrumentalist, Roy Schneider plays guitars, mandolin, banjo, flute, bass and percussion. Apart from the aforementioned Charlie McCoy and David C. Johnson, notable musicians appearing include Kim Mayfield who supplies keyboards and backing vocals and fiddler supreme Kevin Aland.

Having ended his nationally syndicated comic strip in 2008 to focus on his lifelong musical aspirations, Roy Schneider has already humbly shared bills with such respected artists as Sam Bush, The Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins, Matthew Sweet, The Steeldrivers, Stevie Coyle, Fred Eaglesmith and Rodney Crowell. 2010 will see Roy head over to the UK for his first ever dates on British soil, taking in the prestigious Wombwell Folk Festival in Barnsley and Grapevine@Bedfords in Norwich, more UK dates to be announced shortly.

“Roy Schneider writes and plays smart American songs in a down-home style.”
David Gans, Songwriter, Host of the Grateful Dead Hour

“…had no idea [Roy] played so many instruments so well.”
Noel ‘Paul’ Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary
