Raintown – new album

Raintown Writing On The Wall

Glasgow-based country duo Raintown return with their eagerly anticipated second album Writing On The Wall. Set for release on the October 9th, the album boasts twelve new tracks from Paul and Claire McArthur-Bain, an award winning husband-and-wife duo who are fast gaining the reputation as one of the hottest country acts in Europe.

In their three year history Raintown have won eight awards including Entertainer of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2014 British Country Music Awards, plus Duo of the Year in 2013 and Record of the Year at the 2012 Scottish New Music Awards.

Fan-funded on PledgeMusic, Writing on the Wall continues to cement their place as one of the UK’s leading new breed of country acts. The album is an eclectic mix of lyrical stories, from country to guitar-driven pop. ‘If This Was A Love Song’ with its strong, sing-a-long chorus is about promises and conversations between a couple on the fear of giving relationships a second chance, “It’s about finding the right words to say”, comments Claire. ‘Missing You’ came in the aftermath of the Clutha Tragedy in Glasgow. “We were discussing how hard it would be to have the last voicemail message from someone you had lost and would that be a comfort or a means to continue the misery”, explains the duo. ‘Shut The Front Door’ is a powerful guitar-driven anthem. This is a real departure for us, it is pretty full on and rocky”, Paul explains, “It is basically saying – ‘you don’t like us and we are cool with that. There’s the door!’”

The recently married couple fuse their passion for country music with their eclectic musical influences to continue the tradition of exciting new music to emerge from Glasgow, following the likes of Admiral Fallow, Chvrches and Honeyblood. Their catchy hooks and dynamic male/female harmonies are delivered with a passion and style that demands attention, while their carefully crafted lyrics articulate human emotions in a sincere, “heart on the sleeve” kind of way. The duo’s debut album, Hope In Troubled Times was met with huge acclaim from critics and fans alike.

Raintown are the only band to have performed at all 3 successful Country 2 Country festivals at London’s O² – in 2015 they played to a full capacity crowd at the Brooklyn Bowl, the largest of the ‘pop-up’ venues. They also had the opportunity to perform – as Jo Whiley commented – a “wonderful” live acoustic session for BBC Radio 2 Country, hosted by Whiley, Bob Harris and Baylen Leonard. This summer also saw Raintown play the main stage at the Cornbury Music Festival alongside the likes of Tom Jones and Lulu and perform at The Country Collective at Canary Wharf with Ward Thomas and Callaghan. You can catch Raintown live this October when they head out on their headline UK tour.
